“AGRI-VISION 2020: PARTNERING & INNOVATING FOR SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE”
Tuesday, 1st July, 2014 (8.00-12.00)
Meeting Room: Conference Room 205, 65 Van Mieu street, Hanoi
The 21st Century is considered the “century of high tech in agriculture”. Agriculture sustainability is one of key topics towards inclusive green growth and a more sustainable path to the future. Sharing global inputs and experiences will help Vietnam to identify a set of enabling policies ahead.
In Vietnam, the agriculture, industry and service sectors need to be working more efficiently, with greater scientific inputs and more ecosystem inter-linkages with each other. Agriculture, however, is one sector whose integration with other sectors of the economy remains inadequate. We need to look at innovation and partnerships, farmers with industry, with R&D institutions, the public and development sectors, so that while farmers are enabled to increase productivity, they can improve lives as well.
This seminar aims to create a multi-stakeholder dialogue towards Vietnam’s vision for achieving agriculture sustainability, and Vietnam becoming a self-sufficient global contributor in agriculture. The dialogue will focus on addressing challenges through solutions in agriculture policy, innovation, partnership, with a special reference to issues related to yield, availability and deployment of agriculture inputs and technologies, upscaling of agricultural extension, effective R&D for farm-to-fork linkages, conserving natural resources (land, water, energy), improved market linkages, and how farming can be made more remunerative and productive.

“PUBLIC-PRIVATE PARTNERSHIP FOR SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE”
In an ever-connected world facing the challenges of feeding a growing population, using stagnant or diminishing natural resources, managing the impact of climate change, and improving inclusive growth, no single institution can deliver maximum social, economic and environmental impact. It will take new partnerships between governments, the private sector and civil society groups. There are significant opportunities for all participants in the food and agriculture ecosystem to create public-private partnerships to enhance productivity and deliver inclusive growth. As the Vietnamese market opens further, how can resources, policy, investments and partnerships align? How can Vietnamese regulations enable food and agriculture sustainability? Let’s examine the role, examples and opportunities for public-private partnerships are an enabler of solutions.
  • Examples of Public-Private Partnerships for Sustainable Agriculture Development
  • Improving Investment & Innovation in Agriculture from multi-players’ perspectives
  • Strengthen the Enabling Environment - How to develop policies and practices to strengthen the agricultural sector and attract more enabling investments
