As Ambassador David Shear concludes his term in Vietnam (2011 – 2014), the US-ASEAN Business Council is pleased to organize a reception for our companies and his friends, colleagues and partners in the government, foreign embassies, international organizations, business community, NGOs and civil society to bid farewell to him.

Participants: Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Ha Kim Ngoc will be our keynote speaker. Besides Ambassador Shear and members of his excellent country team from the US embassy, we are also inviting Chairman of Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) Vu Tien Loc, senior government officials, Ambassadors from TPP and ASEAN countries and the UK, France, Germany and EU, the heads of international organizations such as UN, WB, IMF, ADB, prominent local business leaders (SOEs and private sector), NGOs and intellectuals, and representatives from Council member companies.

During Ambassador Shear’s tenure, US exports to Vietnam rose from $4.3 bn in 2011 to over $5 bn in 2013, an increase of nearly 17%. He and his country team have spared no efforts in advocating for the US business community, leaving an important foot print in many of the big business deals our companies have had with Vietnam over the past 3 years. Ambassador Shear is a close friend of the Council and our member companies and has spent time with us in every business mission we have brought to Vietnam. Ambassador Shear will be the next Assistant Secretary for Asian and Pacific security affairs atthe Department of Defense following Senate confirmation any time in the coming months.  We have no doubt that in this new and even more important capacity, he will continue to be a good friend of the US business community, especially those of us who do business in Vietnam and ASEAN.
