Discussion with Douglas Bell, Deputy Assistant Secretary, U.S. Treasury

The purpose of Mr. Bell's trip is to brief Malaysian government officials and relevant stakeholders on the U.S. government's new approach to cross border data flow issues as they relate to financial services in trade agreements.This new approach, developed by U.S. Treasury and USTR in consultation with the financial services industry, does not apply to the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP). But because this new approach is an important aspect of U.S. trade policy, the U.S. government is working to promote this new policy with all the countries that are part of the TPP, including Malaysia, and all relevant stakeholders. Mr Bell is also well positioned to engage with USABC on issues related to financial services and TPP more broadly.
