DESCRIPTION:Employment in Multinational Companies   Does it help or hurt coming from small towns?\n\n\n \n\nSpeakers are each expected to make a presentation introducing their respective company\, what they would expect from their employees and how their employees enjoy working with the company. Although not required\, company representatives are encouraged to talk about any employment opportunities their companies may have for young college graduates in Vietnam. \n\n\n\nSpeakers need also to address the advantages and disadvantages of employees coming from small towns in MNCs and tell success stories about those who overcome shortcomings and make it far in their career path.\n\n\n\nThe session is meant to intrigue young Vietnamese about global brand names such as members of the US-ASEAN Business Council\, inspire them with corporate business philosophy and culture\, and share with them practical ideas about how to be competitive in today's job market.\n\n\n\nBackground: The US-ASEAN Business Council Board of Directors has requested that the Council conduct activities to engage future generations in ASEAN countries to help them build a peaceful and properous region. The Council's "Career Development Program for Vietnamese Youths: How US companies can help" is one such activity.\n\n \n\nIn reality\, for many years now\, Council member companies have been running their individual programs to help young people in ASEAN develop the right skill set for the growing economies in the region.\n\n \n\nThe Council's initiative to engage young people in Vietnam will not dilute or distract attention from those individual company programs but rather will enhance them by collating information and resources from these programs and present them in one convenient package to the target audience.\n\n \n\nCareer development guidance is of dire need in Vietnam. About 1.5 million young Vietnamese join the work force every year and the Vietnamese government has been struggling to find enough employment\, much less high-quality jobs\, for them. The irony is it is not because there are not enough jobs on the market\, but it is because most of these young people do not have the right skill set required by businesses\, both foreign and domestic\, in Vietnam.\n\n \n\nCouncil companies have a lot of expertise and resources to help Vietnam fill this void in their educational and vocational system. We can do that with the Council's "Career Development Program for Vietnamese Youths: How US companies can help".
